Job Title:               Radiation Physicist II

Starting Pay Range:    $ 5400-5500 per month

DUTIES: Primary Responsibility of the Radiation Physics Department ties in
the radiological considerations, operational safety aspects, & shielding
design of the facility to which the Radiation Physicist is assigned. Work
invokes close interactions with physicists & beam line designers. Initially
will have backup responsibility for two or more accelerator areas. Will
participate in writing Beam Authorization Sheets in conjunction with
Accelerator Department Safety Office & he involved in design/development of
personnel protection & beam containment systems. Perform shielding &
activation calculations & neutron. photon & charged particle dosimetry.
Give assistance to experimenters in solving background problems, detector
design, measurements. etc. Will participate in overall Radiation Safety
Program & Operational Health Physics activities at SLAC. Research
opportunities are available.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE This is an entry level Accelerator Health Physicist
position with career opportunities. ABRP certification will be encouraged.
Position requires recent Ph.D. in Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, or
Physics. A combination of physics & health physics training/experience is
required. (M.S. with equivalent accelerator experience will be considered).
Applicant should be familiar with shielding of accelerators, radiation
transport calculations, neutron, photon & charged particle dosimetry.
Experience with nuclear instrumentation & radiation detection is essential.
Strong computer UNIX & PC, etc.) skills are necessary. Strong written &
oral communication skills are essential. Applicant must have demonstrated
experience working effectively, both independently & within a group & be
willing to work nights & weekends (on special occasions).
