HP Position at University of Houston



Health Physicist

The University of Houston is seeking candidates for the position of Health
Physicist (HP) to support the Radiation Safety Program.  The HP performs
routine inspections of lasers and x-ray machines.  The HP maintains the
inventory of other radiation producing devices and performs inspections as
required.  The HP is required to accurately maintain detailed health
physics records associated with the specific duties within the radiation
safety program in compliance with state and federal regulations.  The HP
performs basic health physics duties and supports the radioactive waste
program.  The HP responds to, investigates, and documents radiation
incidents and spills.  The HP supports radiation safety training and other
safety departmental duties as assigned.

The position requires a bachelor's degree in a directly related field or
equivalent experience and one year of directly job-related experience.
In-depth knowledge of state and federal radiation regulations is desired.
Competence in Macintosh or Windows 95 computer systems is preferred.
Experience with health physics computer applications is a plus.  Moderate
walking and lifting of up to 50 pounds is a part of the job.  The starting
salary is from $30,339 to $33,000.  This HP position is a one-year
appointment subject to renewal in September, 1999.
