Re: Slightly Contaminated Soils

Reference to Cs-137 soil contamination question:

I recently got NRC approval for remediation of a site that was originally
decommissioned in 1969, but had residual Cs-137 contamination that we have
"volunteered" to clean up. We got NRC to agree to 15 pCi/gram using the
following reference:

Federal Register Notice (57 FR 6136-6140), Order establishing criteria and
schedule for decommissioning the Bloomburg Site (Feb 20, 1992).

If Bloomburg (and ICN) could get NRC to agree that 15 pCi/gram is good
enough, your sub-picocurie levels should be allowed to just sit there with
no action. How the new Decommissioning standard in Part 20 affects that
advice, I cannot say.
