Shielding for Pd-103 -Reply

Paul,

I believe that shielding Pd-103 is a little tricky. That is, for thin shields the
concern is the dose from soft (22.7 keV or less) X rays for which the tenth value
layer is about 0.3 gm/(square cm). For thicker shields, the 500 keV gammas
become dominant and the tenth value layer is about 28 gm/(square cm) and a
buildup factor correction is needed.
