Re: Self-Absorption Effects on Air Filters

     Ms. Algutifan,

I believe that Skrable, Chabot, and French published a note in thr
Health Physics Journal in about 1973 concerning the average depth of
burial of alpha emitters in filter media. I don't have the specific
reference, but I recall that it involved measuring alpha to beta
emission ratios and using the ratios to estimate the average depth of
     burial.

     To refine my request:

Is there a specific procedure, series of equations, or methodology (a
cookbook recipe would be nice) that defines how to evaluate alpha
self-absorption effects on air filters? The filters I'm interested in
are mixed esters of cellulose and the pumps they are attached to pull
     40 liters per minute.

     Thanks,
