Nuclear Power Plant Web Sites
Radsafers -
I find it hard to believe, but it appears that there are few official sites
for individual nuclear power plants on the Web. I went looking for two
specific plants and couldn't find them. Then I looked for nuclear power
plants in general. Through the nuke home page I was able to find only the
Northern States Plants. I WAS able to find Anti sites and the extensive
information provided by NRC. I had to conclude either 1. Utilities don't
set up Web sites for their NPPs, or 2. The sites are there but are not
readily accessible (I was searching using MetaCrawler which uses a number of
searchers.)
NEI didn't have any links to plant Web sites, nor did ANS.
Students and members of the public who search on the Web for information on
nuclear power will have trouble getting a full picture if NPPs don't have
their own sites. Most plants were built with visitors' centers that featured
informative and educational exhibits; that stuff should be on the Web.
I think this should be of concern to Radsafers, because getting information on
radiation to the public is an important aspect of our work. And NPP sites
could provide a useful communications channel.
I hope I will get responses telling me that I'm wrong and that the NPPs ARE
on-line, and I just wasn't clever or diligent enough to find them.
