Re: GPS USE
In West Chicago both IDNS and Kerr McGee use systems manufactured by Trimbel.
The IDNS system is either backpack mounted or can be mounted on a Kawasaki
ATV...in both cases the sytem is coupled with a 2x2 NaI detector. The data
ports to a data logger which is then downloaded to a GIS. This system takes
gamma readings while moving over the ground.

The Kerr McGee system uses a ATV/trailer mounted Canberra Germanium detector
originally designed by Lockheed Environmental Systems and later switched to
KM/Canberra. This system calculates soil concentrations using GENII software
and requires stationary counts at fixed points, either prelocated with GPS or
the system can be mounted on the ATV. This data is downloaded to a MS Access
database.
Contact Mark Krippel at KM for more information.
