Need latest BEIR factoid -Reply
Jeff, no offense, but I hope you're not using those risk numbers or
anything else that closely resembles it. Please look at the Health
Physics Society Position Statements on Risk Assessment (April
1995) and Radiation Risk in Perspective (January 1996).
If you do use the "BEIR-like" statement below, please also point out
to your students that within the 1 million population, about 300,000
will contract cancer in their lifetime and about 200,000 will die from it.
Just to keep things in perspective. 1 rem can't hold a candle to
genetics or other things like viruses.
