Re: Journals to donate
Dear Tim Miller and fellow radsafers:
The AAPM has a program by which journals and useful texts can be donated
to 3rd world universities and medical physics departments. I believe
they would be interested in your journals. I have looked into donating
a set of journals I have been subscribing to since 1972 and was informed
that the journals and other materials are to be packed into a book box
and sent to a recipient who is identified by the AAPM contact. Your are
reimbursed for your out of pocket costs. I would think that the value
of the journals/books would be tax deductable which is an added
benefit. Anyway this is in my opinion a worthwhile program and will
help fellow physicists and health physicists who cannot afford to
purchase these materials. AAPM also has a program by which one can
defer delivery of journals to oneself and instead donate them directly
to the recipient. AAPM pays the postage in any case.
To learn more about the program you may contact Andrea Hoopes at the
AAPM headquarters in College Park, MD. Andrea can provide you the name
and necessary info. for the AAPM contact person in charge of this
donation program. Andrea can be reached at ahoopes@aapm.org. Her phone
number is 301-209-3386.
