RE: Green peace actions.
To Mike and everybody,
Mike has a good point here regarding the mindset of many members of the
public concerning nuclear issues. As luck would have it, many of the
comments Mike quotes here fell to me to respond to for the LANL
Site-Wide EIS Comment Response Document. It was actually a very
difficult time, with a fair amount of soul-searching, in order to write
a "responsive response" (if you would pardon the pun).
While the rhetoric may have actually originated with the activist
organizations, there are many individuals who believe it to be true,
mostly because it feeds their fears and concerns. As has been stated
often on this listserver, we in the industry have not always helped
things with our attempts to educate people without dealing with their
emotional side.
It is not fun to write such responses, but it is a real education. I
would suggest that we all take an opportunity sometime to take a letter
and try to write an honest response to it. You don't have to mail it to
anybody, just consider it a professional homework assignment.

what few thoughts i have are truly my own.
