NRC May Remove Millstone Oversight

NRC May Remove Millstone Oversight - (ROCKVILLE, Maryland) --
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission may soon allow Northeast
Utilities to run the Millstone complex without someone looking over
its shoulder. After visiting the Millstone Two and Three nuclear
reactors, some NRC inspectors say they will recommend lifting a
1996 order that mandated independent oversight. The NRC shut
down all three reactors for numerous safety violations. N-U is
decommissioning Millstone One.

N-U Says It's Ready For The Year 2000 - (HARTFORD) --
Representatives from Northeast Utilities told state legislators they
have nothing to fear from next year. Power companies are adjusting
their computers so they don't shut down the plants at midnight on
January first, 2000. Utilities will put their Y-two-K preparations to
the test in April. There are fears that existing computers, which
only read the last two digits of a year, will revert back to 1900 when
the year changes.
