TENR/TENORM Conference Announcement

Forwarded from the Radiochemistry List for those of you interested in TENORM

MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT
The Second International Symposium on "Technologically Enhanced Natural Radioactivity" (TENR) will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on September 12-17, 1999.  This conference will examine the situations in which intentional or inadvertent concentrations of natural radionuclides are brought into position such that radiation exposures result.  Some of the more important industrial activities and products in this category include phosphate mineral processing, metal ore processing, zircon sands, titanium pigment production, oil and gas extraction, and building materials.  TENR II aims to bring together both established and young scientists working on radionuclides associated with non-nuclear industries to identify gaps in our present knowledge and to stimulate new ideas and approaches.  Some of the topics to be examined include:
Processes of enhancement of natural radionuclides
Radon and radon daughters in the environment
Techniques of measurement
Sources and effects of enhanced levels of radiation
Radon and radium in natural waters and industrial waste streams
Natural radionuclide mobility and transport
Remediation and management of contaminated sites
Abstracts should be ¾300 words with author's complete names and addresses including telephone and email, and be sent before April 30, 1999 (see http://www.ird.gov.br/even1e.html for submittal instructions).
Further Information: Dr. Horst Monken Fernandes, Conference Coordinator, Instituto de Radioprotectecao e Dosimetria, Rio de Janeiro, Brasil (hmfernandes@openlink.com.br); Dr. William C.
