Pumps contaminated with Tritium -Reply

Ninni,

I have found it impossible to decon pumps used for a 14 MeV neutron
generator unit (with 4 Ci targets) at the University of Michigan. We
couldn't adequately survey the interior of the pumps (in my opinion).

BTW-happy to be away from U-M. RSO there (Driscoll) was terrible to
work under. Made the change from University HP to Medical RSO
program person-nice change. Hope things are going well for you.

Do any of you have experience in decontaminating pumps(with oil in
them)that are contaminated with H-3? These were used in an
accelerator.

If they cannot be decontaminated, how would one dispose of them?

Please email me privately.

Thanks.
