Proposed radon in drinking water regulation
OK, RadSafers, here's your chance to provide input to a proposed
regulation. You've been talking about getting involved and rendering
your professional opinions, now's the time. If you don't comment on it,
then don't complain when it turns out to be unreasonable. The following
notice appeared on the EPA's WaterNews e-mail list for 2/18/99:
On February 5, the Office of Water signed the Health Risk Reduction and
Cost Analysis for Radon in Drinking Water. Prepared to support a
proposed National Primary Drinking Water Regulation for radon in
drinking water required by the Safe Drinking Water Act to be published
in August, 1999, the document provides an analysis of the costs,
benefits, and other
impacts of controlling radon levels in drinking water. The document also
presents information on the costs and benefits of implementing
multimedia mitigation programs to reduce exposure to radon in indoor
air.
The Health Risk Reduction and Cost Analysis for Radon in Drinking Water
report will be published in the Federal Register soon, and will be open
for public comment for 45 days. A pre-publication copy of the Federal
Register notice is available on the EPA's web site at:
http://www.epa.gov/safewater/radon/hrrca.html on the Internet.
EPA will be holding a stakeholder meeting in Washington, D.C. to present
and discuss the Health Risk Reduction and Cost Analysis for Radon in
Drinking Water on Tuesday, March 16, 1999, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m
EST. For further information, please contact Sheri Jobe at RESOLVE,
Inc. at (202) 965-6382 or at sjobe@resolv.org.
