I obviously do not understand, what "liberal" is - that the Greens are not
liberal should be valid both in Europe and the USA. That for instance in
Germany the Greens create a terrible problem because they do not care for
economy, but simply want to push through so called "environmental themes"
is sure not the fault of any liberalism. That the socialist party, which
needs the Greens to rule and therefore have for a short time given in to
the Green Minister of the Environment is sure not liberal. And that the
mass media are neither blue, green, red, magenta or liberal should also be
known - they are out for profit and only horror stories guarantee rising
numbers of copies sold. The Y2K issue is much more used for horror stories
about airplane crashes, train crashes, failure of money tellers and
unwanted start of intercontinental ballistic rockets than about nuclear
power plant failure. There was a time, when in the Western world everything
bad was attributed to the Communists and in the Eastern world to the
Capitalists. We should have overcome such a thinking since long.

I take this comment as something to remind people, that politics, economics
and science are connected by a very complicated web. I think it would be
good, if we from time to time thought what our role in society is - even if
we are dedicated to the scientific and technical side of our job.
