China To Open Its 'Los Alamos' To Tourists

SHANGHAI (Reuters) - China will soon open a showcase nuclear
research center to tourists, complete with a real atomic bomb on
display, the Wenhui Daily said Thursday.

It said the welcome mat would be put out to tourists both Chinese
and foreign at the China Air Dynamics Research and Development
Center, home of China's atomic and hydrogen bombs, in Mianyang
in the western province of Sichuan.

They will be able to see a real atomic bomb and watch a video tape
of a nuclear explosion, the newspaper said.

Also on exhibit would be models of a new generation of fighter
planes and bombers, all in the case of promoting understanding of
science and technology, it said.

China is alleged to have stolen sensitive information from the U.S.
national laboratory at Los Alamos to produce small warheads that
can be launched from a single missile at multiple targets. Beijing
has denied the allegations.
