Radiation has widespread effects on cell -Reply & U/Beer
<snip>
After irradiating thousands of cells, the investigators found that cells
hit by eight alpha particles showed a mutation rate that was threefold
higher than normal.
<snip>
Question: Would any RADSAFER care to comment on the potential
systemic alpha emitter uptake that would represent 8 hits per cell
and the likelihood of those cellular hits in that alpha flux NOT
involving the nucleus?
Any information on the rate at which these hits were delivered?
Ability of the cytoplasm to recover from an individual/multiple hits?
Any information on the effects of ONE hit per cell? TWO? 0.5?
How does natural free radical damage compare with this effect?
Anyone know where this report might be posted on the web?
Thanks in advance,
Michael

P.S.: On the U/Beer thread, nitrates in processed meats will also
deplete the body of certain minerals (e.g., calcium). I think, as
opposed to using the term "chelation" as applied to barley sodas, a
more appropriate term would be "kidney lavage." (a la Otto's msg)
