POSITION:	Health Physicist/Radiological Engineer		FLSA Status:	Exempt
Job Code Family:	P080					Organization:	RMRS
Salary Grade:	14-15  ($3973/mo. to 7,043/mo.)			Effective Date: 4-13-99

General Summary:

This position requires a Bachelor Degree in Physical Science/Health Physics/ Radiation Protection/ 
Engineering. Advanced degree preferred.  Must be certified by the American Board of Health Physics or 
eligible to take the certification exam.

Requires a minimum of 5 years in the Radiation Protection field with demonstrated expertise in ALARA, 
Radiological Emergency Planning, DOE Orders and radiation protection practices.  Knowledgeable in the 
practices of conduct of radiological control activities in accordance with 10 CFR 835, “Occupational 
Radiation Exposure”, and DOE/EH-0256T, “Radiological Control Manual.”  Experience in field 
application of Health Physics concepts and demonstrated ability to successfully develop and implement 
program requirements strongly desired.  Highly developed verbal and communication skills mandatory.  
Effective multi-organization communication abilities required.  Computer skills and knowledge of 
computer software related to shielding dose projections a plus. 

Position Responsibility:

This position reports to the Radiological Engineering Support Services Manager.  Health Physicists 
provide overall technical support to the site’s radiological safety and ALARA Programs.

Job Specifications:

? Develop and prepare policies, procedures, ALARA reviews, etc., to requirements from 10 CFR 835, 
DOE Orders and the Radiological Control Manual.
? Develop new practices and methods of performing radiological work while supporting ALARA 
principals.
? Work also involves performing hands on process reviews, developing material specifications, and 
technical justifications for equipment upgrades.  
? Support the property and waste release program
Additional duties include supporting Emergency Response and Planning efforts.  Assist in dose 
reconstruction efforts.

Working Conditions:

10% fieldwork in areas subject to exposures to hazardous and radioactive materials.
90% normal office setting.
