Just as an aside, there are also radioactive fossils that have not been
exposed to the U decay chain.
As an experiment, I placed a 4" shark tooth found at the Texas Gulf mine in
North Carolina on a therapy placement film (the Kodak self contained kind).
Eighty hours later, after developing, there was the ghostly outline of the
shark tooth. Indications are that there was a concentration of the K-40 in
the phosphate rich environment.
Remember -- radiation is where you find it.
