RE: Bone Scan Information
I had a bone scan two years ago. The activity administered was 22 mCi of
Tc-99m (half life 6 hours). A great deal of this activity is excreted
through the urine rapidly. The image is taken a few hours after the
injection is given. You are instructed to drink plenty of fluids to wash out
the Tc which does not tag to the bone surface. This will give a "cleaner"
image. Check out the Society of Nuclear Medicine's web site,
http://www.snm.org for more information.
I never did get around to calculating my dose. The 24 hr urine sample I
collected had to sit for several days before I could count it! I could set
off our contamination monitors from several feet away.
