Correction:  mutations are _a_ basis for the _theory_ of human evolution.

Seems to me this is the same type of argument used by opponents of irradiated
foods.  I would not necessarily disagree with the assertion that a single alpha
particle can cause mutation.  Just like I wouldn't disagree that irradiation of
foods causes the production of carcinogens in the food.  Lost, however, are the
arguments of the benefits (e.g., the positive uses of plutonium) and the risks of
the alternatives (carcinogens are also produced in heated foods).
