Radioactive Material Labeling

 Greetings:

10CFR20.1904(a) requires that containers of licensed material be labeled
with certain information to permit individuals handling or using the
containers, or working in the vicinity of the containers, to take
precautions to avoid or minimize exposure.

Containers holding licensed material in less than the quantities in 10CFR20
Appendix C are exempted from the labeling requirement by 10CFR20.1905(a).

Considering the above, Harris Nuclear Plant would appreciate information on
the following:

1. What are your criteria for labeling/tagging a container with the rad
symbol and "Caution (or Danger) - Radioactive Material"?

2. What are your criteria for adding information on dose rates, nuclides,
etc.?

3. Do you have any thumbrules (radiation levels, number of items in the
container, etc.) for deciding that there is less than an Appendix C quantity
in a container? What are these thumbrules based on?

Thanks,

Ben
