CIRMS Student Travel Grants

CIRMS Student Travel Grant Application - 1999

SPONSOR: The Council on Ionizing Radiation Measurements and Standards (CIRMS) announces the availability of this new student travel grant program. Please find more information about CIRMS and its annual meetings at http://www.cirms.org.

AWARD: Four awards in four technical areas (see eligibility below), each up to $1,000 will cover expenses for a student to attend and present a technical paper at the 8th Annual Meeting of the CIRMS to be held at National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Gaithersburg, Maryland, October 13 - 15, 1999. Each award will include meeting registration, air and train fare, three nights lodging. Student will have an opportunity to meet with professionals from all over the world, and to visit local radiation calibration laboratories.

ELIGIBILITY: Potential applicants should be conducting radiation measurement related research in one of the areas of interest to the CIRMS: 1) Medical Applications: diagnostic radiology (including mammography), therapeutic radiology (external beam radiation therapy and brachytherapy), nuclear medicine; 2) Public/Environmental Radiation Protection: radioactive waste cleanup and management, survey instrumentation, environmental monitoring and dosimetry; 3) Occupational Radiation Protection: personnel dosimeters (electronic, whole-body and extremity), area survey instruments, in-vivo radionuclide metrology, intercomparisons and type testing; and 4) Industrial Applications and Materials Effects: high dose electron and gamma-ray dosimetry, computational dosimetry, neutron dosimetry for reactor pressure vessel surveillance. Collaboration among university, national labs, and private-sector industry is encouraged. More detailed information about research and development that are needed can be found in the "Report on National Needs in Ionizing Radiation Measurements."
