BNFL announcement expected in days, sources say
LONDON, July 13 (Reuters) - Britain is expected to make an
announcement on the future of its state-owned nuclear reprocessing
and power generation company British Nuclear Fuels within days,
government sources said on Tuesday.
``I would keep a close eye out for it over the next few days,'' one
source told Reuters.
A report by consultants KPMG went to the government in May outlining
a range of options for BNFL -- from maintaining the status quo to
full privatisation.
Industry sources say partial privatisation is the most likely route
forward. Two weeks ago, the government said it was still reviewing
the case.
Tuesday's Independent newspaper reported that Trade and Industry
Secretary Stephen Byers would announce the sale of up to 49 percent
of BNFL in parliament today.
A spokesman at the Department of Trade and Industry described the
report as speculation.
Parliament breaks for its summer recess in two weeks.
