BOEING SUED OVER DEATH OF ROCK STAR'S DAUGHTER: Boeing Co., the world's
biggest aircraft maker, is being sued by a
rock star who claims his daughter's death in 1995 was caused by radioactive
material dumped near his California home. Motley
Crue's former lead singer, Vince Neil, had a home in Simi Valley,
California, next to a nuclear facility formerly operated by Rockwell
International Corp.'s Rocketdyne division. Boeing acquired the property when
it bought Rockwell's aerospace and defense
businesses in 1996. The suit claims Boeing, Rockwell and Rocketdyne
knowingly dumped hazardous substances, such as
plutonium and uranium, near Neil's home. His daughter, Skylar, was diagnosed
with a rare form of cancer in 1995 and died that year.
She ``passed away from cancer as a direct result'' of the companies' alleged
activities, the suit claims. Boeing had yet to see the
suit and wouldn't comment on it, said Lori Circle, a spokeswoman for the
company. ``No evidence of off-site contamination that
would pose a health risk to the public'' has ever been documented at the
Southern California site, Circle said. The suit, filed Friday in
U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, seeks unspecified damages. (Bloomberg)
