RE: Snoopy-- unfamiliar with jargon

This is the procedural description of the Snoopy (I think it is a pretty
good description):

The NRC Model AN/PDR-70 (Figure 1), commonly referred to as a Snoopy, is
a portable survey instrument designed for measuring neutron dose
equivalent rates over the neutron energy range from thermal (0.025 eV)
to 15 MeV.

The Snoopy detector consists of a BF3 proportional counter surrounded by
a boron-loaded attenuator and inner and outer polyethylene moderators.
The detector is cylindrical and has a fixed handle, which makes it
easier to carry. The handle extends 7.0 cm (2.75 in) above the outside
diameter and the feet extend 1.27 cm (0.5 in) diagonally opposite the
handle.

The Snoopy weighs 11 kg (25 lb). The cylindrical detector measures 22 cm
(8.5 in) in diameter by 24 cm (9.4 in) long. The electronics package,
mounted on top of the detector, measures 15 cm by 18 cm by 14 cm (5.8 in
by 7.1 in by 5.4 in).

Subject:	Snoopy-- unfamiliar with jargon

Hi

What is a "snoopy"? I am unfamiliar with this jargon. What kind of
neutron detector is it, and who makes them?

Thanks

Kim.
