Re:RE: Ambient Air Criteria for Uranium

I believe the 10 mg weekly limit on intake of soluble U is based on the ACGIH
Threshold Limit Value of 0.2 milligrams per cubic meter, 8-hr Time-Weighted
Average. Assuming a inhalation rate of 20 lpm and a 40-hour work week, it
calculates out pretty close.

Leo,

The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission regulations in Title 10 CFR Part
20.1201(e) also states, "In addition to the annual dose limits, the licensee
shall limit the soluble uranium intake by an individual to 10 milligrams in
a week in consideration of chemical toxicity (see footnote 3 of appendix B
to part 20)." Part 20.1201 is titled, "Occupational dose limits for adults"
and is available at http://www.nrc.gov/NRC/CFR/PART020/part020-1201.html .
In addition there are limits set by Industrial Hygienist. If you need more
on that send me an e-mail and I'll see what I can find.

The chemical toxicity of uranium is covered in 10 CFR 20, Appendix B,
footnote
3.

The opinions expressed are strictly mine.
It's not about dose, it's about trust.
