Just a note regarding the quantity of depleted uranium involved:

Based on 3 micrograms/litre uranium in solution in sea water (from Handbook of
Chemistry and Physics, 64th edition) there are 6 tonnes of uranium in solution
in 2 cubic kilometres of sea water.  This is the amount of sea water in an area
10 kilometres on a side and 20 metres deep.
