The Table of the Isotopes (7th edition) gives a half-life of 8.5 years, 
referencing a 1972 edition of Nucl. Sci. Eng. (Vol. 48:319).  In addition, 
the two decay schemes showing Eu-154 decaying to Gd-154 reflect this same 
value.  However, the tabular data entry for Eu-154 shows a secondary 
measurement of 16 years as reported in Vol. 87:901 of Phys. Rev. (1952).  
Perhaps this is why the 1970 version of the Rad Health Handbook quoted the 
longer value.  Have a good weekend!
