> Radioactive spill near Dorval airport
> MONTREAL (CP) - A small leak of radioactive material Monday led to the
> evacuation of 15 people from a cargo building near Dorval airport.
> Officials said the material was being stored in a barrel but didn't know
> how much uranium was involved. Several employees are being examined to
> determine if there was any contamination. An official with the airport
> fire department says everything was under control and the all-clear was
> given about four hours after the leak occurred.
> Airport firefighters, who arrived on the scene around supper time,
> immediately ordered an evacuation of the site.
> The leak happened when workers were transporting a barrel containing tubes
> of the hazardous material.
> One of the tubes broke when the barrel fell onto the ground.
> An ambulance services spokesman says the level of radiation was higher
> than normal, but did not represent a danger to the workers who were
> exposed to it.
> The evacuation was a preventive measure and there was no danger or
> radiation in the air.
> No flights were delayed because of the spill.
> The hangar is about a kilometre from some homes.
