Mark Phillips, from Jet Proportion Laboratory (JPL) is our November guest
speaker. His topic will be a general overview of nuclear power systems (NPS)
and their application for spacecraft as power sources and thermal sources.
He plans to talk about the health physics aspects of NPS ground
operations including; shipping, preparations for use, intra-site transfer,
and installation on the spacecraft in preparation for launch. The Presidential
Nuclear Safety Launch Approval Process, and radiological contingency planning,
preparations, and launch day activities will also be discussed.

Mark is an active member of the Southern California Chapter of the Health
Physics Society and holds an undergraduate degree in biology from Ohio State
University. He completed graduate work in systems management from Florida
Institute of Technology during 1984 -1986.

His work experiences includes:

Kennedy Space Center 1981 - 1991
… Manager of Health Physics Office 1983 - 1991
