The passing of David Elliot Pollard



It is great regret that the employees of Helgeson Scientific Services advise
our friends in the radiation protection field of the death of Dave Pollard.
He has been a fighter and an example of courage to us and to his family. His
33 years with our company has been an enriching experience.

            David Elliott Pollard, SR.

David Elliott Pollard, Sr. resident of Pleasanton, California, died at home
October 23rd after a long battle with cancer.  He was born October 15th,
1938 in Kiowa, Oklahoma to James Otho and Janice Elliott Pollard.  He
graduated from Crook County High School in Prineville, Oregon and attended
Linfield College.  He served in the US Army at Fort Louis Washington from
1957-1959.  He was president of Helgeson Scientific Services, Inc. where he
had been employed since 1966. 

Affiliations and Hobbies: Presbyterian Community Church, Northern California
Chapter of the Health Physics Society, Board of Directors of the Nuclear
Instrument Manufacturer's Association, including a year as Secretary.

 He was an avid sports fan, and loved fishing, golfing, reading, traveling,
art collecting and genealogy.  He volunteered at the Standdowns for homeless
veterans.

 Survivors: Jeannie Pollard, wife of 22 years; Mother, Janice Pollard of
Prineville; son, David Elliott Pollard, Jr., Daughter, Debra Pollard of
Livermore, Ruth Smith of Manteca, Shirley Pollard of Livermore, and Jennifer
Pollard of Pleasanton; Grandchildren, Nicole Pollard, Crystal Adams, Austin
Pollard, Brandon Stone, and Joshua Smith; sister Nancy Davis of Prineville;
Brother Jerry Pollard of Portland, Oregon.  His father preceded him in death
in 1994.

Services: A memorial service was held October 30th at 1:00 PM at the
Presbyterian Community Church in Pleasanton.  Arrangements by Graham-Hitch
Mortuary in Pleasanton.  On Saturday, November 6th, services were also held
in Prineville, followed by internment at Juniper Haven Cemetery next to his
father.
