There is a 24 hour hotline for misc questions in Hawaii-808-ASK-2000.
You could check there and the state dept of land and natural resources has a
public information office number@  808-587-0320.  I haven't seen much in the
news about it recently but our local paper has a new website
www.honoluluadvertiser.com and a daily check there would also provide headlines
that would include your issue.
