Open Invitation 12th IIED

Dear Colleagues,

The 12th International Intercomparison of Environmental Dosimeters (IIED) will be held in the spring/summer of 2000 in New York. It is being organized by the Environmental Measurements Laboratory (EML) in collaboration with Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

This voluntary testing program began in 1974 and typically involves over 100 participants from more than 25 countries. The purpose of the program is to assess the performance of passive environmental radiation detectors such as thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLDs). Participants mail in environmental dosimeters for irradiation under laboratory and field testing conditions. The intercomparison is conducted at no cost to the participants and the results are published in a peer-reviewed scientific journal without identifying individual performance. The 11th Intercomparison results have been published in Radiation Protection Dosimetry, Vol. 85, Nos. 1-4, pp. 201-206, 1999.

If your organization is interested in participating in the 12th Intercomparison, please complete the registration form found at http://www.eml.doe.gov/iied/ as soon as possible, but no later than January 31, 2000.
