The University of Missouri-Columbia Research Reactor has an immediate
opening for a Health Physics Technician. The MURR is the highest powered
university affiliated research reactor in the United States. A brief
description of the position follows:
Provide Health Physics coverage for various experimentation and maintenance
activities associated with radiation/reactor facilities. Consult with and
advise radiation workers regarding experiments and general use of radiation
and radioactive material to define and minimize potential hazards. Perform
radioactive contamination analysis of samples. Prescribe, demonstrate and
verify proper use of survey instruments, film badges, extremity dosimeters,
pocket ionization chambers, protective clothing, decontaminations materials,
equipment and shielding. Perform and document surveys of areas where
radiation sources are being used. Maintain performance checks, calibrations
and NIST traceability for radiation detection instrumentation used in
analyses. Analyze environmental samples and assist in preparing a report on
the results and significance of the analyses. Perform indoctrination,
information and training programs to provide worker training in the handling
of radioactive materials. Assist in developing and reviewing Reactor
Chemistry procedures and forms.
An Associate's degree in Health Physics or a related field or an equivalent
