same cel phone towers, different question

Howdy all, 

Woke up this morning to the tail end of a news report stating that cel
phone towers kill some 4 million birds a year in the US, presumably from
the transmitted signal.  Any truth to this or is this some weird web hoax
made manifest on radio?  I personally can't believe that we wouldn't have
heard this because of all the enviro's out there that would be screaming
foul.  (Yes I realize I just made a pun.)
