Greetings list members:
 
The qualification examinations for employment as Environmental Radiation Specialists 1 and 2 at the Bureau of Hazardous Materials and Radiation Management of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation will be held on December 5, 2009.

Note that the salaries listed for these positions are starting salaries; salaries generally increase in yearly increments until the applicable job rate for the position has been reached.  New York State Civil Service also provides an excellent range of health, promotional and retirement benefits.  
 
Minimum Qualifications
 
On or before December 5, 2009, you must have a bachelor's or higher-level degree in biological, environmental or physical science, radiological or nuclear engineering, chemistry, or nuclear medicine technology. In addition, you must have had:
 
For Exam Number 25-217: two years of professional experience in radiological science, radiological engineering, or nuclear engineering.
 
For Exam Number 25-218: four years of professional experience in radiological science, radiological engineering, or nuclear engineering, one year of which must have included direct supervision of health physics or radiation safety staff.
 
Substitution: Unless used to meet the educational requirement described above, a master's degree in radiological, nuclear, or environmental engineering; or in health physics; or a master's degree in public health which includes 18 graduate semester credit hours in applied health physics, radiological, or nuclear engineering and/or radiochemistry may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
