[ RadSafe ] Maypuri Co-60 news items -- source of co-60

Hi Many thanks for that....it seems more information is now forthcoming as to the source.

A quick scan for the most common irradiators using Co-60 and coming from Canada and in use in India since the seventies indicates that the most probable candidates had up to 54 "wires" in them.

One hopes that, in such a situation, the missing 43 or so do not cause the same problems...

On the subject of dose; I haven't seen any dose estimates other than the 2-4 Gy ones.

A colleague just sent this to me -- they found out from where the sources originated.

The Pioneer Online Edition : Radioactive source traced to Delhi University lab

Looks like the irradiator came from the chemistry dept at Delhi University.

Hi

Thanks for that but those sources were my first port of call and subsequently precipitated my attempts to obtain more reliable information in particular as to doses.

The Indian (and other) press is mentioning doses to the deceased of the order of 1.9 Gy to something between 3 and 4 Gy.

The first of these just sound a little too low for the condition the man ended up in?

I therefore wondered had anyone any reliable sources of information as to the possible doses he got ? As in WHO, IAEA, official Indian estimates?
