This is not only your opinion alone, at least I share it....

I wonder, why people post from their employers servers. Do they have so much
spare time during working hours to deal with RADSAFE? Then I fully
understand that employers forbid this "pasttime". Using the employers server
would at least for me imply that the employer is d'accord with the opinion.
To write a very weak caveat at the end of the message (Might not be the
opinion of my employer....) is ridiculous. 

There is a very simple solution to this question: Why do the posters not use
their private e-mail in their sparetime? Do they use their DOE etc adresses
to impress people on RADSAFE? I am not impressed. Can't they afford a
private internet connection? Poor US-Americans! I post to RADSAFE
exclusively during my free time (being retired) and at my own costs.

The whole deal about identifying oneself is not related to competency or
credential, it is really linked to the etiquette or lack of it on certain
discussion servers. Some employers does not even allow participation to such
list for evident publicity or image reasons, as employees may get carried
away. That being said, it is easy to get carried away if you don't properly
identify yourself. Having an email is not a proper identification.

Now, about emails, it may simply be noted that a gmail, hotmail or live.com
adresses carry less weight then a US.org, a DOD or a IAEA address. The
latest may be CNN or FoxNews material so Radsafers from key organizations
are simply careful in what they write, this is a very good side effect of
proper identification or credential. 

But no matter the address, if the content is in link with radiation safety,
health physics and even political issues around these topics, I, personnaly,
am glad to read and many time, learn from the posting.  I will simply use
caution or use my delete button, if the signature is only Joe, or the
address is ''antiNuke334'' ... Everyone on this list have a delete button, I
am sure. You can even use a program to systematically delete senders....

Last nine messages did not deal with "US inks Nuclear Reprocessing Deal with

India", the "Subject" of the messages. The message is more important than

wrote it. After a few messages in the list you tend to realize who is likely

contribute! No offence meant!

 I carefully looked for some views of the list members on the US-India
deal.This 
is particularly because of my India connection and also because I knew
closely 
the early developments which led to the Indo-US civil nuclear cooperation

I've known Joe Alvarez for many years and he is extremely technically
competent 
and his opinions and comments are appropriate for consideration here on
Radsafe 
as well as any other forum he posts to. Joe was also on the Health Physics 
Society Board of Directors and was my liaison to the Board as I was the
Chair, 
Health Physics Standards Committee (which I am still Chair going into my 3rd

three year term). Joe did note that his affiliation was included in his
E-Mail 
posting, and even if it were not, I agree with Jeff that with the many
personal 
smart phones used for responding to posts, it is not always convenient to 
include one's entire signature information. When I respond or post from my 
smartphone, just my name is included. Where possible, one's affiliation is
of 
interest, but it's the comments that count and not necessarily the
affiliation 
that is important. Having just had surgery for a detached retina three days
ago, 
and I'm typing with one eye closed, I'll stop my comments here, before I 
aggravate the condition even more.
