This vacancy announcement closes August 2, 2010.



NIST is seeking to fill multiple Health Physicist positions for the Safety, Health, and Environment Division, Health Physics Group. These positions are located in Gaithersburg, MD. The Health Physics group provides support to the NIST scientific mission in areas such as: radiation safety training, dosimetry, radioactive material use and hazard analysis, inventory control, shipping and receiving of radioactive material packages, effluent and environmental monitoring, laboratory instrumentation quality control, survey instrument calibration, laboratory surveillance, and incident response.



The incumbents will support the radiation safety and ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) program at NIST Gaithersburg for the broadscope materials and research reactor licenses. This includes: providing radiation safety services and training to radiation workers; regulatory compliance monitoring; analyzing radioactive samples; and performing radiological surveys.
