You might try a series called Radiological Health Data and Reports that was begun around 1960 by the Public Health Service. I have a couple of later volumes and in 1968 they published "Summary of Gonadal and Genetically Significant Dose from X Rays in the United States, 1964" Although they do not provide the complete citations that article does reference two studies from the mid 1950's, one by Laughlin & Pullman, and one by Brown, et. al. Morton L. Brown was one of the authors of the 1968 Technical Note and was a Deputy Chief, Population Exposure Studies, Population Studies Program, National Center for Radiological Health.

Subject: [ RadSafe ] Medical X-ray Doses prior to 1960.

I am looking at some information about radiation doses for abdominal
medical X-rays in the 1950's.

Although these may have been single radiographs, I suspect that the
doses were relatively high and not recorded in the patients' medical records.

I'm trying to locate some data or estimates about these pre-1960
medical X-ray doses.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Otto
