And for there to be JUST enough radiation to cause mutations and not cause other damage(s) at some other discernable distance (i.e. mortality) is even lower...

Of course, some folks will claim that things must have been worse and longer ago than has been reported....

(my own opinion)

I've seen tomatoes with "extra bits" all of my life. My grandmother had
them in her garden when I was a boy. In any event, there is so much
diversity in tomatoes that shouting "Mutant!" doesn't have much
credibility.

And, of course, IF there was a mutation introduced because of radiation,
the chance that the same mutation would manifest in a large number
plants simultaneously is vanishingly small.

When the nuclear power industry contaminates wide areas of populated and
fertile land and poisones the fish grounds along the coast, then there
is no argument left against destroying the nuclear industry, regardless
whether the tomatos are really mutated or not, which they probably
aren't. and which argument is irrelevant considering the widespread
damage done by the nuclear industry. It does not take knowledge to
motivate politicians, it only takes lots of potential voters raising
their voices loudly!
