[ RadSafe ] Climate Change Report

It is also interesting is that virtually all of the Glacier Bay ice retreat occurred before CO2 levels started to rise. There's a great map of historical ice extent at the USGS web site (http://soundwaves.usgs.gov/2001/07/glacierbaymap.gif). Anthropogenic CO2 is clearly NOT responsible for a glacial retreat that began in the late 18th century. Of course this observation has nothing to do with more recent glacial retreats - but at the least it shows that some pretty major glaciers started melting long before there was any human impact on atmospheric CO2 levels.

The National Snow and Ice Data Center (nsidc.org) recently had a map and
graph online showing that Antarctic sea ice extent was above the 95
percentile for the 30 year average (1981-2010). Strangely I can't find
that map and graph today.
At http://nsidc.org/cryosphere/sotc/sea_ice.html you can find a lengthy
page that focuses almost exclusively on the decrease in Arctic ice extent
and only briefly mentions Antarctic ice increases and shows one graph with
both Arctic and Antarctic trends.
No mention is made of the substantial increase in Arctic ice in 2013.
