[ RadSafe ] Why I am not receiving messages

Dear Sandy,

I recall the very useful and at times controversial contributions of Franz
Schoenhofer to the list. He was very active. He always called a spade a
spade!. I recall that your were posting photographs which were unique, real
visual treats! I particularly recall the photos you sent after I He preRPA
10 from Hiroshima . I attended it as I was then the President of IARP, an
Associate Society of IRPA.

I had a very pleasant surprise. I met Dr Alan Brodsky purely by accident.
While I started my profession as a radiation safety professional I have
heard about him and his work. During IRPA 10, we discovered that we have
common interests. We were found attending the same parallel sessions! He
asked me about my professional and academic background. He gifted me his
book describing his seminal work on Uranium and its toxicity. We exchanged
messages later for a long time.

He told me the background in which Dr Alice Stewart came to US,
collaborated with Thomas Mancuso and carried out some interesting work
which if my memory serves me right was the epidemiology of workers at
Hanford site.

I always considered it a strange coincidence the way Alice Stewart and K Z
Morgan transformed into ultra conservative radiation protectionists and
moved away from the main stream. I had a fascination for historical
developments in science. I recall writing a letter to the Editor in* Health
Physics* requesting pioneers such as Lauritston Taylor of the bygone era
to write about the early years just to record their trials and tribulations
while they developed health physics and radiation protection into a
respectable scientific profession.

Yes we must revive the old spirit with which we used to contribute to the
*radsafe* list. I gratefully remember the contributions of people like
you. The latest story I heard was about Dr Chris Busby now publishing his
"ancient" work in some obscure journals published from India . Mind you we
have a few hundreds. We have in India an enterprising crop of publishers
who run successful "peer reviewed" journals helping those who wanted to
publish their "work"

warm regards
Parthasarathy
