Maybe the number of people quoted depends on the newspaper or the news
agency? In my country we can tell exactly the order of the number of
victims quoted in the headlines of papers in any catastrophic event like
earth quakes, wars etc. (Tokaimura was not of much interest for our media
and made it only to page 17 and higher.) "Kronenzeitung" will be by far
highest, "Kurier" second, "Standard" third and the elitarian "Presse" will
probably mention it on page 5. 

We should not take such quotations too serious!
