RE: intentional misuse - proposed "cures"

Oops - got bit by the From bug. The last part of my message should read:

Regarding the latest university incident, I have no idea how it was handled
nor am I saying it was handled immproperly. But evidently, something
happened that caused it to escalate to a serious and public confrontation.
Having personal and painful experience, I know how easy this can happen.
Once the problem reaches the confrontational and public stage, the
nay-sayers pop out of the woodwork and everyone gets polarized. Let us not
let that happen in this forum. As our information on the issue is sketchy, I
would urge Radsafers to reserve their judgement.

As my dad taught me and as I have applied to problems like this: 1)do not
cry over spilled milk; and,2) fix the problem, do not be a part of it, then
move on. It is a philosophy and psychology that, when applied to radiation
safety work in a university is quite powerful. It maintains good relations
with the researchers and promotes a safe environment. I agree there is
always a root cause to a problem, but I strongly agree with Andrew that the
solutions are not always easy nor one-size-fits-all.
