Re: FACTS ABOUT TENNESSEE ILLNESSES

I hate to jump into this dogfight, but I would like to point out that
there is a very dedicated (though woefully underpaid) staff of state
regulators who oversee DOE's EM activities in Oak Ridge and who monitor
the environment both on and off the Oak Ridge Reservation. Their
activities and findings are published annually in the Tennessee
Department of Environment and Conservation DOE Oversight Division Status
Report to the Public. The LOC does the actual publication in
conjunction with an outside editorial consultant and a summer intern,
with the express purpose of making the report readable to the public.
TDEC DOE-O reviews the report prior to its going to press to ensure that
the technical information is not changed or misrepresented.

If you are interested in the current status of contamination,
particularly off the Reservation, you can see the facts for yourself.
You may read or download the reports for fiscal years 1998 and 1999 at
http://www.local-oversight.org/tdec_98.html and
http://www.local-oversight.org/tdec_99.html respectively.

I'll also put in a plug for the LOC's newsletter INSIGHTS, which can be
accessed directly from our home page: http://www.local-oversight.org/
