Radon and related daughters is the right answer.  If there is air flow
through a PVC tube, static electricity will be created, attracting the
radioactive particles in the surrounding air to the PVC piping.  If the air
flow is stopped, the characteristic half-life can be observed; the
radioactivity disappears.
