Re: RADSAFE digest 3135

No matter how well-defined and scientific the study is, the anti-nuclear
village will not believe it. I used to live in that village, since then I
have visited that village regularly. Sometimes I have listened to truly
breathtaking irrational discourse and have seen stunning changes in
direction when a line of reasoning was recognized as leading to anything but
the predetermined conclusion.

As far as everyday risk is concerned, it isn't a good idea to keep in mind
the risks that can seemingly come out of nowhere. You might be like one of
the people on the ground in Cerritos when the Mexican Airlines plane fell
from the sky. You might be like one of the children in the school in London
TX when it exploded. You might be like the family of four that was in their
tent in a campground when a van ran over them. You might be like the couple
who were suffocated in their bed by the carbon monoxide from someone else's
car. You might be downwind from a coal-fired power plant or a phosphate
mine. I always used to drive a little faster when I was going by that
giant natural gas storage tank next to the Long Beach Freeway.
