Re: background vs man-made emmissions

Hi Norm,
Just a quick question... what are the safer forms of energy production that you would like to see implemented in this country?
        thanks!

Hi Sandy

I can't give you a yes/no answer. I think that there is some validity to the Tooth
Project's theories. I'm not a scientist, that should be evident by now (psych BA,
History MA), so I can't argue all the fine points with you, tho' I give it my best
shot.

Before I came to this list the scientist I mostly referred to on technical issue was
(and is)
Dave Lochbaum, nuclear safety engineer for the Union of Concerned Scientists. His
statement to me about 2 years ago, when I asked him about the TF project was that he
felt that their
hypothesis was interesting and needed testing. (i'm paraphrasing). He never gave me the

"radiation is radiaition and thats it" position.

It seems to me that radiation is not just radiation is some of it gets concentrated in
different body parts like teeth and bones, or thyroid.

I've also been priviledged to host several Hibakusha (Japanese A-Bomb survivors), so I
now from them what long-term doses of radiation does in the form of latent cancers.

I have no problem discussing with you looking over the different parts of the nuke
cycle in order to make the whole procedure safer, and I'm all for that. If we in the
anti-nuke movement can't shut 'em down and replace 'em with (to us) safer forms of
energy production, then of course we are all for safety and better safety. Its one of
UNPLUG Salem's missions.

I'm sorry if I kind of walked around your question. But thats where I am right now.

peace
